Obituary:

Mathias Larnell Johnson of Hurlock, Maryland and also resided in Havre de Grace, Maryland departed this life on January 13, 2010. He was 47 years of age.

Larnell, as he was affectionately known, was born February 8, 1962 in Cambridge, Maryland, the son of Charlotte J. Hughes and Herschel F. Johnson. He was also reared by the late Florence & Clarence Hughes as well as a special Aunt Margaret Hughes.

Larnell was educated in the Dorchester County School system. He was a member of Delaware National Guard Unit. He worked at various locations throughout his lifetime. Later in life Larnell resided on the Western Shore where he found Christ. He was a member of the A.U.M.P. church, where he participated in many church functions.

As many may know, Larnell was an avid sports fan. If the Lakers or Cowboys where playing and you were rooting for a different team, be prepared to get many phone calls from him rubbing it in if your team was losing. When he laughed, it was such a joyful laugh, which will be sorrowfully missed. Anyone who knew him knew that he had a big heart as well as a strong opinion. He would let you know if you were right and definitely if you were wrong.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Florence and Clarence Hughes and Ernest Johnson.

He leaves to honor and cherish his memory, one son, Shawn Conaway of Salisbury, Maryland; his parents, Charlotte Hughes of Hurlock, Maryland; and Herschel and Dorothy Johnson of Cambridge, Maryland; paternal grandparents, Pensacola and William Sampson of Cambridge, Maryland; four loving sisters, Demetria Potter (Charles), Andretta Hardy both of Hurlock, Maryland; Sandra Galloway (Curtis) of Augusta, Georgia; Patricia Smith (Brian) of Bridgeville, Delaware; three brothers, Rodney Johnson (Ida) of Decatur, Georgia; Timothy Johnson of Austell, Georgia; and Jeffrey Chester (Tonya) of Charlotte, North Carolina. He also leaves a cousin, Anthony Hughes (Kim) who was like a brother to him, and a special uncle, Marvin Hughes (Patricia). Also cherishing his memory is his longtime companion, Ann Cavallero of Havre de Grace, Maryland, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends to cherish is loving memory.
