Lewis Adams Jr. of Bellevue, Maryland, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the Caroline Hospice, Denton, Maryland. He was 81. Born February 26, 1928 in Weems, Virginia, he was the son of the late Lewis Adams, Sr. and Sarah Murray Adams. He was educated in the public schools of Talbot County, an alumnus of Robert Russa Moton High School in Easton.
After completing high school, Brother as he was known by all, enlisted in the Armed Services and went into the United States Navy. In the Navy, he served as a Steward Mate 1 on the USS THOMPSON in Korea. While in the service, Brother earned the World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. On November 14, 1947 he was released with an Honorable Discharge after which he returned home to find employment.
He made his home in Cambridge, Maryland where he was employed at the Dorchester Lumber Company in Linkwood, Maryland. In Cambridge, Lewis met and developed a lasting relationship with his long-time friend Mildred Chester.
In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by one brother Matthew Murray; two sisters, Helen A. Douglass and Maggie A. Bullock; and a niece Eartean P. Harris
He leaves to mourn his death five sons Lewis, Alton, Tyrone, Patrick, and Carroll; three daughters, Shirley, Joyce and Lisa; two stepdaughters, Eloise and Helen; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great grandchildren; one grandniece Jacqueline Greene and a host of other relatives and friends.
