The Obituary
Oh, how beautiful are the gifts of our Father; Annie Jane (Williams) Dupree was born on March 1, 1922 in Clio, South Carolina to the late Charlie Williams and Hattie Williams. Annie was educated in the Marlboro County school system and at an early age, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Marlboro County.
Annie was united in holy matrimony on January 6, 1943 to the late John Dupree, Sr. and from this union they were blessed with five wonderful children.
After arriving in Jersey City Annie and John united with the New Hope Baptist Church under the Pastorate of the late Rev. Henry Harrison. Upon Rev. Harrison’s passing, her brother Rev. James Nathaniel Williams became the pastor. At New Hope she served as Sunday School Teacher, VBS Teacher, member of the Senior Choir, Missionaries Circle and the Ministerial Staff. Annie worked tirelessly at New Hope until 2007 when she relocated to Middletown, DE. Annie was licensed into the gospel ministry in 1963 and ordained in 1975 by her brother. She was a graduate of the Jamison Bible Institute, Philadelphia, PA, Her religious affiliations included member of The New Hope Association, the General Baptist State Convention, The National Congress of Christian Education, Hampton Ministers, Conference and the National Baptist Convention USA. She was a devoted member of the Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows Alliance of Newark , NJ & Vicinity (President & Treasurer), New Jersey State Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows (Chaplain), International Association of Ministers’ Wives & Ministers’ Widows, Inc. (Life Member). Annie was also active with the NAACP, Jersey City Chapter, C&C Randolph Avenue Block Association and the Hattie Boyer Memorial Organization. Upon her relocation she united in fellowship with the First Baptist Church of Cheswold, Delaware, under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Willie Savage.
Annie had unspeakable talents, she was a seamstress, a hairdresser and a barber (yes, John taught her to cut the boy’s hair), she was a great cook and was known for her stuffing and homemade apple pies.
God saw Annie was tired but He also saw that she was missing her beloved husband of 67 years; she was predeceased by her husband, Rev. John Dupree, Sr. (February 15, 2009). Anyone who knew these two can almost hear John saying “Come on Ms. Anne” I’ve waited long enough, so on Monday, July 12th when God reached down and plucked this rose from His beautiful garden, John was right there giving God another hand while whispering into Annie’s ear “Lets go”, we have unfinished business for the Kingdom.
Annie leaves to cherish her memories: five wonderful children John (Arhemia) Dupree of East Orange, New Jersey, Bertha (James) Gourdine of Middletown, Delaware, Rev. Dr. Daniel (Loretta) Dupree, of East Stroudsburg, PA, Alfonso (Kathy) Dupree of Townsend, Delaware, and Derick (Adrienne) of Avenel, New Jersey. Twelve grand-children; Minister Darrius Jerome (Kathy) Gourdine, and Darnell C. (Timika) Gourdine, Shemaiah (Edmond) Ofori-attah, Danielle Dineen Dupree, Reginald John (Meghan) Dupree, Stephanie DeBrille Gourdine, Nicole Jineen Dupree, Latasha Rolanda (Brandon) Edmonds, Monique Shannell, Marcus Leon, Ashley Simone and Brianna Simone Dupree. Four great grand children; Zarria Ann Gourdine, Isaiah Daniel Dupree, Brandi Simone Dupree and Noah John Dupree (while Mom was saying good-bye he was saying hello world). One brother Charlie Williams of Charlotte, North Carolina, one brother-in-law Luther Dupree of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one sister-in-law, Doris Estelle Williams of Jersey City, New Jersey. One godchild; Raynard (Renee) McGahee and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
